One kiss could be the last...

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

My Thoughts

Jennifer L. Armentrout has been one of my favorite authors since I pick her first book (Obsidian) few years ago, she writes of everything and anything, but the best part is the way we could relate to all the stories she creates. This book is not an exception. And he brings more and more wonder with this new and exciting series.

White Hot Kiss is the first book of the series about the god and evil, represented with Gargoyles and Demons. You probably think that gargoyles are the evils and horrible since they don't look very appealing on buildings but here is actually the opposite. But let's start with the plot.

I think that it's very original. I never see coming something like it, with all the twits and craziness that this book could brings. Also the way to be a closure because we end it with the solve of an apocalypse problem (sort of) but also give you the chance to make yourself expectations of new things cause it left you hanging with what could happened with the love triangle.

The action is not left behind. There are many moments when you going to be at the edge with everything going on and the vivid way that Jen create each scene. I always love her way of writing. Some people would say that she is just a making cash machine, that all her book keep the same math formulas but, when I do agree some of that could be correct (the second part, actually), I also believe that she is just a wonderful writer because not matter what she writes, it always reachs us deep down.

I can perfectly relate of what she gives us here, and even more I can picture it as something real. She made it real. That's the important part, that we could feel and get emotional of what she writes, and that we could put it into our reality and make it our own.

So, this book is perfect in that way because of that.

“People with the purest souls are capable of the greatest evils. No one is perfect, no matter what they are or what side they fight for.”

Now... the characters...

Let's start with Zayne. Some of you may know that Jen was making a contest to let us choose the best option for Layla to stay (Zayne or Roth), I didn't participated because I hadn't read the books at that moment. Though, after reading THIS book, I have to say that I would go all the way with Roth. The fact that for me, the relationship between Layla and Zayne are just of brother and sister, or very close cousins.

“I know.” His hand landed on mine and squeezed gently. “I was pissed—part of me”

I just can't picture them together. I think that Layla love him because he is the only hot material around her age around. It's like the crush we always have as kids. Of course, Zayne is a good guy, very protective with her and take his responsibilities very seriously. Though, I want to see him grow more. He lacks of something to wow me.

Now, Layla is a very brave girl. I always have like the female heroines of Jen. She always makes them taught, strong but also soft and not perfect. Relatable. Which make, especially me, proud of each one of them when they reach that point of bravery like we also did it with them. I like their journey through each book.

“At some point, Roth had gotten hold of my cell and replaced Zayne's name with Stony and listed his own number under Sexy Beast. What a tool”

Layla has all that. Starting the book, she always was looking comfort in Zayne arms and kindness. But as the book progress, she also does so and end releasing her strenge and power. I like how she embraces her personality. Can't wait to see more of her in the future.

Roth. He's just wonderful. Actually, the best character of the whole book. I was sad those scene he wasn't in the book and laughing when he was around. Though, he was fun and witty he also gets a soft part. And progressive we know more from him and understand everything at the end. He was marvelous in this book.

Overall, I like it a lot. A new favorite from the amazing Jennifer Armentrout. I fully recommend it to all Jen's fans and those who like paranormal romance. Won't let you down.
